What is induction lighting?
Induction lighting is a combination of electromagnetic induction and gas discharge lighting. An electric current passig through a coil generates an electromagnetic field, including an electric current in the gas filling of a low pressure gas-discharge lamp. A ferrite core intensifies this induction. This induced current causes rise to ultra-violet radiation which in turn is converted into visible light by fluorescent powders inside the lamp bulb.
An induction lighting system comprises an electronic circuit (high frequency generator), the power coupler (antenna) and the low-pressure gas discharge lamp without the use of any filaments or electrodes; and therein lies in the main adavantage over tother systems. The estimated life of Star-Light lamp system is 60,000 hours 'over 13 years ona a 12-hour cycle' - this is significantly longer than that of any other currently available light source. Due to the electrodeless operation the techniocal life is determined by the electronic components of the HF generator.
